Their biggest challenge in DE&I

We are a bit of the odd one out in the start-up world though, as we’re majority female (60/40%) across all levels, and teams, including leadership. Also, the industry (HR tech) is predominantly female. We’ve built our foundation and values around DE&I so the focus will be more on maintaining and being a role model to other start-ups.

The challenge

In this unique role as our very first financial controller reporting into our Finance Business Partner, you will help build, structure and optimise our internal financial processes. All in the midst of scaling up rapidly across different countries. You will help improve our internal controls and turn raw data into a winning strategy. In this role you will be responsible for our monthly and annual closing, and partner closely with our external accountants to internalise accounting. Furthermore, you will work closely with our client success and product team to continuously optimise our platform, and processes and to deliver world-class customer service.

Some of your key responsibilities 

  • Manage the end-to-end company financial accounting and reporting process.
  • Constantly improve the consistency and reliability of our financial figures.
  • Internalise financial accounting and get Settly ready for international expansion.
  • Reconcile financial data between the systems, manage reconciliation on key profit and loss and balance sheet items and collaborate with external accountant to ensure on it completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate and clean monthly specifications of ledger entries.
  • Identify and explain variances, and drive improvements.
  • Ensure cashflow reporting is up to date and drives the right strategy.
  • Ensure local compliance with accounting principles and other legislations.
  • Responsible for implementation of budget processes and necessary tools.
  • Pro-actively drive control improvement opportunities and implement them.
  • Process payments and ensure the information is reflected in all systems.
  • Work closely with the Ops & Product team to establish and optimise processes.
  • Support and back-up billing process.
  • Help in setting up new companies and growth of the company organisation.
  • Support Finance and leadership team in setting up weekly and monthly reporting metrics for all departments.

More about you

Skills and experience we’d love to see 

  • Min 5 years of experience in accounting, controlling or audit.
  • Min bachelor degree in finance related field
  • Proactive and self starter, strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Tech savvy, process driven and eager to solve problems.
  • Knowledge of ERP and financial softwares
  • Good communication skills
  • Team player with a positive mindset who gets things done.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Eager to learn and always looking to push yourself to the next level.
  • Fluent English.

Preferable (not a must)

  • Knowledge of Dutch.
  • Personal experience of living and/or working overseas.
  • Big4 experience or start-up / scale-up experience.
